Anti-Vibration Gloves 101

As machinery developed throughout the years, the use of rock drills, grinders, impact wrenches, and power saws have increased significantly in the construction industry.
In the past, things had to been done by hand, but now we have access to various types of machines that get the job done far more easily.
This is also the reason why you need to make sure you're wearing proper PPE to protect your hands from any harsh impact.

What happens if you don't wear any anti-vibration gloves?
If you refrain from wearing anti-vibration gloves when operating vibrating machinery, it will increase the risk of being diagnosed with the Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).
HAVS is caused by vibration damages that occur in the fingers, hands and arms when working with vibrating tools or machinery. While HAVS is preventable, once the damage is done, it is permanent.

Symptoms of HAVS:
Some of the early HAVS symptoms include tingling and numbness. Visual symptoms include a change in skin color, for instance, whitening which usually occurs in combination with heightened sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures. HAVS is especially likely to affect individuals who work outdoors in extreme temperatures.

Preventing HAVS:
To prevent yourself from the risk of HAVS, make sure to wear anti-vibration gloves when using any type of vibrating machinery.
When looking for the right anti-vibration gloves, it is important to look for a glove that is flexible on the back of the hand. If the glove has a big solid block of rubber on the back of the hand, you should pass on them.
Protection on the back of the hand should have lots of flex points so that it will be comfortable and allow for a more free motion in the hands.
