▶ HAND SAFETY 101 PART.II ◀

Now that we've learned about the statistics of safety on the work site,
let's look into how we can reduce the number of injuries and accidents
with these top 3 tips to improve hand safety:

Tip #1
Never Take Off Your Protective Gear.
Studies show as much as 60% of hand injuries can be eliminated through
appropriate use of hand protection.

Many workers tend to remove their gloves when it does not provide
enough dexterity for the task at hand.
Dexterity is such an important aspect when performing intricate tasks,
such as working with small parts, or when working in cramped conditions.
The glove needs to be able to provide enough dexterity so that
workers don't have to take them off to get the job done.
Make sure that you have access to a pair of gloves that offer
sufficient dexterity suitable for intricate work!
Never take off your gloves just because they're not working well with the task!

Tip #2
Avoid Situations Exposed to Accidents
There are certain situations you do not want to get yourself into
while working which can put you at a higher risk
of an injury or a serious accident.
Make sure to follow these warnings to prevent any injuries:
Do not place your hands in places you cannot see
You always need to be able to see your hands when working.
Avoid rushing through the task
It is better to work smart than to work fast.
Remember, injuries happen when you're not careful and more
vulnerable to getting into an accident when rushing.
Do not do an un-safe action "just this one time"
That one time, can be the first time.
Do not trust your reflexes too much
Counting on your reflexes to save your hands and fingers is
almost the same as depending on your car to save you from any accident.
Just like how people get killed in car accidents, your "reflexes"
cannot save you from getting your fingers cut off.
Remember that injuries happen in a blink of an eye.
Do not put hands or fingers near moving equipment parts
Always keep a safe distance from the moving equipment parts.
Never get too close.
Do not wear jewelry underneath gloves
Wearing rings or bracelets can disturb the control you have on your hands.
They can get in the way.
You want to make sure that you have full control
over your hands and fingers when performing tasks.

Tip #3
Protect the Hands with Guards, Tools, and Gloves
Hand injuries usually occur when using heavy machinery and tools.
Make sure to use machine, energy, and chemical guards to reduce chances of risk.
These guards are in place to prevent hand injuries,
so make sure you're using them at your work site.
If there is a problem with the guards, don't forget to report to your supervisor!
