With summer just around the corner, here are some of the top vegetables
you can grow in your garden for the summer!

1. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes grow well during the summer and produce
abundantly in as little as 90 days!
Wait until the weather is nice and hot before you
begin to plant them for best results.
Plus, sweet potatoes need very little cultivation once
the vines begin to spread across the ground.
They will be ready for you to enjoy by the fall.

2. Hot Peppers
Hot peppers grow and produce well from spring into fall.
While some of the larger types slow down production
when summer nights arrive, many of the smaller ones,
which are the hotter types produce well straight through.

3. Green Beans
Beans are very easy to grow and productive as well.
They're perfect for beginners. Tip is to choose
pole beans for a long season of steady production.

4. Zucchini Squash
Both summer and winter types of squash are best grown
in the heat. Start planting the seeds indoors
and transplant them into the garden in late June or early July.
Protect them with row covers until the plants begin to bloom.
You can cover the stems with soil as they mature,
which will help protect against any squash vine borer damage.

5. Sunflowers
Sunflowers are the perfect plant for gardeners who
want to seed something and not have to worry about it.
Sunflowers grow and flower, producing edible seeds,
without needing much attention from the gardener.
They're another plant suitable for beginners.

6. Eggplant
Eggplants produce the best in hot weather conditions.
Make sure to protect them from flea beetles by
monitoring for pinholes in the leaves accompanied by
tiny black beetles, and treating with pyrethrin insecticide
if more than a few are present.

7. Cucumbers
Cucumbers are a classic summer vegetable.
With consistent soil moisture and good fertility,
just a few plants will produce enough for plenty of
salads and homemade pickles.
Growing cucumbers on a trellis provides good air circulation,
which help keep leaf spots at bay and makes harvesting quick.

8. Corn
Corn is one of the most popular summer vegetables.
It tastes great and doesn't require much maintenance.
Just watch out for worms and keep corn well watered.
They will be sweet and delicious!

9. Melons
Melons, including watermelons, cantaloupe, honeydew,
and many more, are some of the best summertime snacks.
Allow plenty of room in the garden for the melons to grow,
or choose bush types that stay a bit smaller if you
don't have much space in your garden.
