How to Keep Cool on Your Worksite this Summer

Welding and construction sites can get
extremely hot during the summer seasons.
Here are some tips on how you can
stay cool this summer on your work site!

Choose the right fabric.
Make sure the gloves you are using this summer
are made with HPPE such as TenActiv™ or Dyneema® fiber.
HPPE has a naturally cool feel to it and is lighter than
para-aramid fibers such as Kevlar®.
If you're using leather welding gloves,
make sure they have 100% cotton lining
so that they will absorb any sweat.
At the end of the day, it is always good
to turn the cuffs inside out so that air can get into the
gloves to dry any moisture.
This will prevent any  unpleasant smell
or bacteria from forming.

Take advantage of arm sleeves.
Arm protection has become very popular
not only in the working industry,
but also in outdoor activities.
In the summer months, it is difficult to protect our arms
since our sleeves get shorter.
You can find special arm sleeves with cooling effects
that prevents heat as well as protects from the UV rays.
It is suggested to choose white sleeves
instead of dark colors like blue, red, or black.
Make sure the sleeves you choose are made with
breathable, comfortable material.

Wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
Wearing a hat can prevent any overheating
and help you keep cool when outside for
long periods of time.
Wearing polarized sunglasses are suggested
to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and
extreme brightness which can make you more fatigue than usual.
Applying sunscreen 30 minutes prior to going outside
in the sun and re-applying if you can every 3-4 hours
is also suggested to keep your skin protected from the UV rays.

Drink plenty of water
Instead of coke, or iced tea, or coffee,
reach out for that bottle of water this summer.
Coffee and tea will only make you more dehydrated
and since you'll be sweating a lot,
it is wise to drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated.

Always work wisely and take breaks.
If you're feeling dizzy at any time of the day while working,
listen to the sign and take your break.
Know your limits!!

Always remember,
safety comes first!
