Here are some safety tips on how to stay
safe when dealing with sparklers:
▶Statistics show that sparklers cause about 75%
of the firework-related injuries in the U.S.
Sparklers burn at extreme temperatures,
up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
It is hotter than a blowtorch!
It's usually young children who get burned
so make sure kids are under supervision around
fire crackers, fireworks, or any type of sparklers.
Handle the sparkler only by the non-burning tip,
never touch the burning tip, and when finished,
drop it on a non-flammable surface such as the pavement
and douse it in water before throwing it away in the trash
to make sure that it is completely off from fire.
▶Never light a firecracker while holding it in your hand.
Instead, light it on a non-burning surface like the pavement.
This is a much smarter, safe, and the best way to light a firecracker.
▶Point Roman candles or bottle rockets
(which are not legal in certain States) in a safe direction,
away from yourself, other people around you,
including fields that could burn.
Injuries occur when people get hit by these fireworks
or when they are holding a defective one that goes off in their hand.
▶Do not light more than one firework at a time.
Not all of them will go off, and you will have
unlighted fireworks all over the place.
▶Have a designated fireworks lighter.
Make sure to have a person who is in charge of
lighting the fireworks who either cannot drink or
will refrain from drinking.
These were some basic tips on how to stay safe around fireworks.
Also, make sure to drink responsibly and
don't drink and drive!
Hope you all have a safe 4th of July!
