Spring is Coming: Gardening Tips for Beginners

With spring just around the corner, what better way to greet the season than to build your own garden?
Here are some basic tips to get you started:

1. Choose a good site.
Choose a site where there's enough sun exposure and easy access to water. Make sure you use good soil. As they say, "feed the soil and your plants will take care of themselves." You will need to determine what type of soil you will use and what it needs. (NOTE: vegetable gardening is different from flower gardening, therefore the type of soil you use may vary depending on what you plan on planting in your garden.)

2. Choose your plant.
This is the difficult part. There are so many options to choose from! First, consider the color scheme of your garden, and what type of mood you would like to bring to your backyard. Make sure the flowers or plants you plan to grow go look well together. Another tip is to visit your local flower shop to visually see what types of plants go well together.

3. Garden Tools
Gear up with these essential gardening tools:
- stainless steel garden trowel
- manual hand pruner
- garden knife or digging tool
- shovel
- garden spade
- hand rake
- good pair of gardening gloves (leather gloves)
